What is LushCake?  Is it the name of a bakery?  Is it the name of a restaurant?  It’s neither.  If I wanted to skim the surface, I could say that LushCake is a health/beauty online magazine, and that would be true.  If I told you that LushCake is a “place” where women can go to gather information regarding beauty/skincare products, fashion know-how, the “ins and outs” of the best restaurants,  fitness instruction, blah, blah, blah, that would also be true.  However, here is the skinny on LushCake. more

SoBe Style…?

SoBe Style…?

May 7th, 2013

What’s the first thing I noticed about South Beach (or shall I say heard)?  It was the “clackers.”  Clack, clack, clack is the sound you hear from all the high heeled shoes echoing throughout the hotel lobby and on the streets.  One thing about the women in Miami – they love to clack!  There is a lot of emphasis put into their wardrobe, (I say that with a laugh) but most importantly their shoes!  They love at least 5” heels in either stiletto or wedge style (NY is no different, however we LOVE the Stiletto – and can run in them)!  They love to show their legs off, and their derrière too (not exactly my style, but to each her own).  Bright vibrant colors lay against their tan skin, whether it’s spray tanned or “sun” tanned and it is color in motion…  I felt like I was back at the Jersey Shore; however, the w[...]

Healthy vs. Unhealthy…

Healthy vs. Unhealthy…

April 15th, 2013

We could talk about unhealthy food, unhealthy shopping and unhealthy living, but instead I want to talk about healthy vs. unhealthy minds of human beings.   As I went along my day enjoying the healthy California weather, the poor people in Boston had a very unhealthy day!  My first reaction was multiple shakes of my head immediately followed by disgust in the center of my soul. As Facebook has turned into the new MaBell, I picked up the proverbial phone and started to listen.  How, when, why, and the ultimate question, what has happened to this world? People are very interesting…New Yorkers really aren’t thrilled over Boston, California people are NOT easy breezin’ with New Yorkers, and so on (it’s like a sibling relationship, we may disagree, but we are FAMILY)!  When it comes to tragedy, people pray and wish well for everyone, and so the telephone game began. I immediately became enraged along with many other[...]

COLOR ME CONFIDENT

COLOR ME CONFIDENT

April 1st, 2013

What colors come to mind when you think of spring?  Most would answer the obvious colors: pink, violet, emerald, poppy, blue, lemon (just to name a few).  That spectrum goes through my “average” mind.  Now, can you imagine the color range that goes through the “Jimmy Hendrix” mind of a designer?  Truly, they are brilliant in their own hemisphere, and I can’t help but marvel at their brain waves. Their mission: Come up with a line that is inspiring, exciting, and different.  Try not to repeat history and don’t you ever copy your peer’s work.  No worries…the world is only watching… With New York fashion week gone in a New York minute, and waking to the sound of Spring chirping every morning, girls around the world are eagerly awaiting fun, flirty spring excitement to adorn their bodies with!  Gentlemen, start your engines; spring is here and summer is closing in.  Goodbye to sweaters, boots, and park[...]

THESE HARD TIMES

THESE HARD TIMES

March 14th, 2013

I know LushCake is supposed to be about fashion/beauty, but every once in a while I believe our lives need to be injected with a dose of reality. Yes, I know we all deal with our own hard times and no one knows our story like we do, but sometimes when we hear of another’s pain, it gives us a chance to let the human side of us surface. I personally join those who sport their rose-colored glasses, not wanting to face the pain on a daily basis, but sometimes life takes no prisoners and we must stand and take the heat. So, here we go… just yesterday I received a text from my eldest brother (thanks to my sister for reminding him). It was not the kind of message I would ever want to receive. I was on my son’s field trip when my cell buzzed, and as I checked the m[...]

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE…

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE…

March 6th, 2013

In the blink of an eye you can catch someone’s attention. In the blink of an eye you can make someone think twice. In the blink of an eye you can shatter someone’s day. In the blink of an eye you can bring someone back from the dead…   Now can you imagine what you can do if you sparkle your eye with a little shadow? I still don’t understand why women go to such lengths to clown their faces with so much makeup.  Honestly, give me a natural dewy look and “shadowed” eyes and that’s all you need.  I believe our eyes are the windows to our souls, so why not grab someone’s attention and have them stare at your eyes instead of some other body parts? We are Oz; we hold the key to our beauty!  We are all beautiful starting from the inside and working our way out – so, let’s learn how to use our gift the right[...]

Don’t just talk about Breasts…WALK for them!

Don’t just talk about Breasts…WALK for them!

February 26th, 2013

Where do I begin, and how do I get your attention?  Let’s talk about BREASTS!  Does that work? I don’t know one person who doesn’t like breasts.  They’re beautiful in their own way and size, they serve a purpose (nothing to do with men, I’m talking about feeding our children), and they round out a women’s body.  To babies, they are nourishment, to men or women they are a nice asset to look at, but to women who battle breast cancer, they can become a showstopper.  Since the majority of people like them, we need to do everything to preserve them and the people who are literally attached to them. I personally know women who have lost their lives to breast cancer, and I myself am challenged in this department.  When I look in the mirror I think, “I like my breasts”, then a millisecond later I think, “God I hope I don’t get breast cancer[...]

Was it Fashion Week or a Broadway Play?

Was it Fashion Week or a Broadway Play?

February 21st, 2013

Did you know that the very first New York fashion week took place in 1943? It was called “Press Week” and it was the world’s first-ever organized fashion week by Eleanor Lambert. The intent was to showcase American designers (whose designs were neglected) and those who were unable to high-tail it to Paris to see the “French” fashion shows. Needless to say, it was a success and ballers like Vogue who normally kissed French designers were now opening their kissing booth to American fashion! Well, thank you Ms. Eleanor (you sweet Indiana girl) for taking the bull by the horns and standing when no one else had the guts to. A spunky chick who landed in Manhattan and gave us girls and designers what we deserved (you’re my kinda girl)! So, let’s talk fashion at fashion week. Here’s just a few of my Broadway play moments (good & bad): 1. Betsey Johnson: Love her quirky styl[...]
